North & West Yorkshire - About Us
The Group has three briefings (for Members) per year (usually held at Leeds College of Building, Stourton, Leeds). The next set of briefings will take place at Construction Skills office, Morley (Leeds) on 16 May 2012 in the morning followed by the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the afternoon - see Events section for further details.
Prospective new Members are welcome to attend the AGM but you will need to let Richard Thorpe (tel 0113 283 4260 or richard.thorpe@hse.gsi.gov.uk) know beforehand as limited capacity. A buffet lunch will be served between 12 and 1pm with the AGM starting at 1pm and finishing no later than 3pm.
We are running a free evening drop in 'surgery' on 4 July 2012 (5-7pm) at Normanton Golf Club which is aimed at self-employed builders & small construction companies. It is an opportunity to ask a team of construction health & safety professionals any questions you have about construction health & safety. See events section and flyer for details.
We ran a 'Behavioural Safety through Drama' session which 43 x 2nd year construction students (different trades) attended at Leeds College of Building, North Street, Leeds campus on 23rd April 2012. This involved re-enactment of an accident involving scaffolding. The feedback received from the students was very favourable.
We ran 8 x half day asbestos awareness courses (and trained approx 120 people) in Bradford from late January to mid-March 2012. This training was kindly provided free of charge by OHS Ltd (one of our Group's Members).
We ran an evening (5-7pm) 'drop in' construction h&s 'surgery' at Buckles Inn, off A64, York on 5 October 2011. Six Committee Members were there to give advice about anything to do with construction h&s. 25 people from 18 companies turned up. We are planning to do more of these in other parts of N&W Yorks - watch this space.
We ran 4 x half day asbestos awareness training courses (provided by Aversion Ltd - a Member of the Group) in July & August this year.
We ran a Mock Trial on 14 December at York Law School (University of York). Judging by completed feedback forms this event was well received by the delegates (50 - court room full) and we plan to run more of these in 2012 throughout North & West Yorkshire.
We ran a Safety Health Awareness Day (SHAD) in September 2010 (at Leeds College of Building Stourton, Leeds) & again in March 2011 (at Hewlett Training, Leeds) and plan to do three SHAD type events per calendar year.
We ran briefings for members in April 2010, July 2010, October 2010 & January 2011. We also ran a Safety Leadership drama session (MacNaughton McGregor) in March 2011 (again at LCB Stourton) and held our 1st AGM same day.
We are hoping to run several events in 2012 (details tbc) but possibles are:
1 High 5 Safety Health Awareness Day (SHAD);
