The guest speaker  is Mr Andrew P Furness CFIOSH, DipOSH, GIFireE, MIFPO, MIIRSM, FRSPH who is currently Managing Director of Salvus consulting Limited, Safety Management & Training.  He is also the Chairman of IOSH’s Fire Risk Management Group and sits on the CLG’s community safety forum.  His background is both fire and construction orientated with vast experience in both sectors.  Having left the Fire Service after some 16 years service (due to ill health) his first key role was establishing fire safety management for the refurbishment of the Cunard Building, South Western House in Southampton, which was a timber framed building undergoing substantial refurbishment works.  Using both his fire engineering knowledge, gained within the design and enforcement role within the Fire Service, and his construction knowledge gained both within the Fire Service (fire-fighter safety in buildings) and the construction sector, as a site manager, he was able to combine a fire safety approach during the construction phase of the programme.

His subsequent involvement in writing the Syllabus for the IOSH Managing Safely in Construction, NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management Certificate and co-authoring the Butterworth Heinemann publication ‘An Introduction to Fire Safety Management’ has led Andrew to becoming an authority on fire safety in construction.  He has also consulted by Phil Burgess and the Team in the revision of the soon to be released revised HSG 168 ‘Fire Safety in Construction’ .

After the event there will be an update on the work of WWT Anglia Region.
